What Are Your Spiritual Gifts?
You were created by God for a specific purpose. In fact, when you became a Christian, God gave you at least one very specific spiritual gift. Are you using it?
The current sermon series at my church is about spiritual gifts. Allow me to share some of the things that I've learned.
First, if you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit has given you at least one spiritual gift. God's intent is that we use our spiritual gifts to build up one another and the entire Church.
Spiritual gifts are different from talents. A talent is a natural aptitude or skill, such as athleticism or artistic ability or (gasp!) math…READ MORE…
Lousy Fair
In an early-morning Christian Men’s Group, a brother talked about “lousy fair”. Not sure if it was an intended pun or an illiteracism (pretty sure I made that word up), but either way I latched onto it. I’m gonna go with that.
So, how are things going? “Lousy to fair” would at times seem optimistic.
Are you going to Lousy Fair? Musical puns and treatments include the song, Scarborough Fair, an old English ballad covered many times over the years. Are you going to laissez fair, or lousy fair? This question raised my consciousness on where I am heading, and hopefully will result in both Spiritual and personal growth…READ MORE…
Voting; A Lesson from Iraq
To ensure the integrity of Iraqi elections, a simple yet effective measure was introduced: voters dipped their fingers in indelible blue ink.
In the wake of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the country held its first democratic elections in decades. This practice aimed to prevent multiple voting and ensure that each citizen could cast only one vote. As the U.S. grapples with its own issues of electoral integrity, it may be time to consider adopting a similar approach…READ MORE…
There’s No Excuse For Being Clueless
It grieves me to see so many professing Christians who are so ignorant of the days and times we’re living in.
Most don’t know and don’t want to know what’s really going on in this world — or how Christ-followers are to respond to it all. Truly, those who are not Christians, or are “nominal Christians” at best, are much more well informed than those who claim to be “devout.” Because most modern American churches today do more harm than good for the Kingdom of God…READ MORE…
Embracing Faith Amidst Secular Symbols
In my personal journey, I recall how my discovery that many of our holidays have roots in pagan rituals, initially shook my Christian-centric ideology.
As I matured, I realized that even the days of the week are named after secular deities, reminding me that such symbols surround us in everyday life.
In Romans 14:5, Paul writes, "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind." This scripture underscores the importance of individual conviction and the freedom we have in our faith. It helped me understand that while these symbols exist, our focus should remain on the principles and teachings of Christianity…READ MORE…
