Her Children Call Her Blessed
Mother's Day has been bittersweet for the past four year since my mother, Sandra Jane, went to Heaven. But this year, the sadness is beginning to abate.
A few years ago, my mom--Sandra Jane--recognized that she was losing her ability to care for herself and she voluntarily (sort of) moved to an assisted living facility which she chose. My brother and I supported and even encouraged her decision.
Sadly, as we knew it would, assisted living eventually turned into memory care and ultimately ended in a nursing home, where she passed away in 2020 at the age of 85.
Was Mom a victim of COVID? Yes and no. She contracted the virus, but she was asymptomatic and she recovered quickly. But for the last seven months of her life, she was unable to touch or hug anyone, only seeing family and friends through virtual visits, socially-distanced outdoor visits, window visits, or visits where she sat on one side of a plexiglass screen and her visitor sat on the other. Prison visitation comes to mind…READ MORE…
How Interesting That Oh-So-Inclusive Colleges Allow Discrimination Against Jews On Campus
Haverford College was founded in 1833, as a men's college, by members of the Religious Society of Friends, more colloquially known as Quakers. According to the school, 98% of the 1,472-member student body live on campus, and the college claims a six-to-one tree to student body ratio. Full disclosure: I did some work on the Haverford campus in the early 2000s.
A liberal arts college, they are most definitely liberal, as they have proudly posted about their student body 'diversity,'telling us that the Class of 2027 is 52.5% "identify as people of color". No mention was made concerning whether Rachel Dolezal was a student. :)…READ MORE…
West Point Weddings, Part 3: Aftermath
Part 3, of a three part series about one of the most unique experiences in American Military Life, West Point Weddings.
Steve hosted a reception for us at his place. This was very welcome as it turned out Steve was a pretty good cook. Who knew? On that way out of the Judge’s, I shook his hand and gave him the palmed double sawbuck. He looked at his hand and loudly said “What’s this?” So much for discretion. On the way to Steve’s, a car barely missed hitting us head on. This time it was not my fault, but that would have been of little consolation. It was a nice reception and our friends presented us with some champagne flutes which we still have. Finally it was time to go. On the way down, Belinda’s high heel got caught in the steps. She almost pitched headfirst from the second story, another close call.
Now that we were married, Belinda moved in with me. It was chilly in the apartment so Donald lit the gas fireplace. It was the first I had used it and the last. The gas ignited with a substantial fireball nearly engulfing Donald’s entire head. Fortunately, it was the last near disaster of the day…READ MORE…

Government intrusion into religious affairs often results in censorship and control over religious leaders and institutions.
The intertwining of government and religion has historically led to a myriad of challenges, particularly highlighted during dark periods like the Nazi regime. The Nazi era serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of government involvement in religious affairs, emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining a clear separation between the two spheres. This article explored why governments should abstain from interference in religious matters, safeguarding the fundamental principles of freedom of religion and preventing the abuse of power…READ MORE…
