Every November, America reenacts the same Norman Rockwell fantasy: a perfectly roasted turkey, a table that looks like it was designed by a food-stylist from HGTV, and enough carbs to immobilize a water buffalo. We do this while half-remembering a cartoon version of the “First Thanksgiving,” complete with smiling Pilgrims and friendly Indians passing the gravy.
