FEMA’s response to this disaster was, unsurprisingly, another masterclass in government bureaucracy at its finest: delays, miscommunication, and paperwork piled higher than the floodwaters. It’s almost as if FEMA’s slogan should be: “We’re not here to help.” Sure, houses were crumbling, power was out, and roads were flooded, but don’t worry—FEMA will get to it, you know, eventually… after the requisite forms are processed and the proper bureaucratic boxes are ticked.
